While there is never a good time to be fighting cancer, the holiday season can be especially difficult for families who have loved ones in treatment. That’s why the L5 Foundation created the Angels of Hope program, which provides the essential elements of a traditional holiday meal for cancer patients and their families.

The Angels of Hope program provides food baskets to cancer patients and their family members. Each basket is valued at over $100 and contains enough food for a patient and family members to enjoy Christmas dinner and breakfast the next morning. There is also a $10 Walmart gift card to help purchase a holiday ham or turkey.

L5 Foundation is seeking $50 donations for each basket. Angels of Hope baskets will be distributed during the month of December to hundreds of cancer patients in our community.

“During the holiday season, we all feel compelled to give back to those in need,” says Dr. Susan Newman, founder of L5 Foundation. “The Angels of Hope program is a very direct and tangible way people can truly make a difference the lives of cancer patients and their family members, right here in our community.”

Newman created the L5 Foundation because she saw first-hand how some of her patients struggled to meet the practical, everyday needs of life, like getting food on the table, paying utility bills or filling up the gas tank to get to treatment.

“Too often, cancer patients have to make difficult choices in order to make ends meet while they are fighting a terrible disease,” she says. “It shouldn’t be that way, especially during the holidays. I hope everyone will support these families.”
